Got You Covered

We know what you’re thinking. “How's a cash-poor kid supposed to find the cheddar to pay for fancy antiperspirants, let alone Botox!”

But don’t freak out. You may not have to work two jobs this summer. And, no, you don’t have to choose between the college fund and dryness.

  • If your family has health insurance, your doctor visits and some treatments are likely to be covered.
  • Keep a special sweat diary. See the ideas below on how to do this.
  • If your familyʻs insurance company needs to be convinced that excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) is a major medical problem for you, use your diary as evidence.
  • In your diary, keep track of how much you sweat compared to other people.
  • Write down how sweat affects you and the stuff you do, or donʻt do.
  • Use specific examples so anyone who reads your diary can really understand what you're dealing with and how deeply it impacts your life.
  • Make a list of all the products youʻve tried using to control your sweating and whether they have worked, or not.
  • You and your parents can download forms and get even more help navigating the insurance maze by visiting the Insurance Tools pages on our mother site SweatHelp.org.
  • Keep in mind that Botox and other treatments aren't just for celebs! For instance, lots of people have been getting Botox treatments for years for legit medical problems – hyperhidrosis now included.
  • If your doctor thinks you should have Botox, and you can't afford it, the makers of Botox have a hotline to help you figure out the financials. Here are the digits: (800) 44-BOTOX
  • Now hear this – you may be able to get help FOR FREE. Doctors often do research on new or existing treatments. If youʻre suffering from excessive sweating, you might be able to join a study at no charge or be part of a training session that the International Hyperhidrosis Society puts on. Visit the research info page on SweatHelp.org to find out more and make sure that you and your parents are subscribed to the newsletter so you get first dibs.

Being able to hold your head up high, doing the stuff that makes you happy, hanging with your friends, having confidence, and knowing that you can be and accomplish whatever you want — thatʻs priceless and possible!
